Heavy-traffic limit for a feed-forward fluid model with heterogeneous heavy-tailed On/Off sources

چکیده

We consider a multi-station fluid model with arrivals generated by a big number of non-homogeneous heavy-tailed On/Off sources. If the model is feedforward in the sense that fluid cannot flow from one station to other with lighter tail distributions, we prove that under heavy-traffic, the scaled workload converges in distribution to a reflected fractional Brownian motion process with multidimensional Hurst parameter. As an application we analyze the impact of having independent streams with variable parameters in high-speed telecommunication networks, on the asymptotic behavior of the maximum queue length.

A Performance Model and Analysis of Heterogeneous Traffic with Heavy Tails

Several research efforts have recently attempted to characterize the effects of heavy-tailed traffic on router performance, while the effects of light-tailed traffic have for long been understood. Since general web traffic originates from heterogeneous sources, the study of traffic mixing is of importance as it can reveal the degree to which heavy-tailed traffic can be handled by networking inf...

A two-queue polling model with priority on one queue and heavy-tailed On/Off sources: a heavy-traffic limit

We consider a single-server polling system consisting of two queues of fluid with arrival process generated by a big number of heavy-tailed On/Off sources, and application in road traffic and communication systems. Classj fluid is assigned to queue j, j = 1,2. Server 2 visits both queues to process or let pass through it the corresponding fluid class. If there is class-2 fluid in the system, it...

Limits for Cumulative Input Processes to Queues

We establish functional central limit theorems (FCLTs) for a cumulative input process to a fluid queue from the superposition of independent on-off sources, where the on periods and off periods may have heavy-tailed probability distributions. Variants of these FCLTs hold for cumulative busy time and idle time processes associated with standard queueing models. The heavy-tailed on-period and off...

Capacity Regions for Network Multiplexers with Heavy-tailed Fluid On-off Sources

Consider a network multiplexer with a finite buffer fed by a superposition of independent heterogeneous On-Off sources. An On-Off source consists of a sequence of alternating independent activity and silence periods. During its activity period a source produces fluid with constant rate. For this system, under the assumption that the residual activity periods are intermediately regularly varying...

On Long-range-dependence Synthetic Data Generation through Heavy-tailed Distributions

Comprehensive analysis of the Internet traffic conducted over the last decade revealed the concept of longrange dependence (LRD) in the collected data traces. Some of this analysis work proved that this property is a result of the heavy tailed distribution of the packet inter-arrival time, which is a result of the heavy tailed distribution of packet size of the traffic sources. In this paper, w...
